I was asked for this information over a year ago and did some rough calculations based on average subscription costs plus binding costs. These are the numbers I came up with:
Avg cost for a bound volume: $217 + $10 for binding
General subjects average: $260
Arts & Humanities average: $191
Social Science average: $194.5
STEM average: $275

My library is assessing the value of our general collections by using a per unit method instead of capitalization. Has anyone recently calculated the replacement value of a bound serial using a unit cost method?
