OCLC 145927975: The encyclopedia of Islam three (EI3), is a monographic set record. 220 holdings

OCLC 268678496 is a serial record for what appears to be the same title. 28 holdings

DLC appears in the 040 field, subfield d of both records. It looks as if DLC has not decided which treatment/record they like best--?

The three volumes we have show ISSN 1873-9830 and each has its own ISBN. Our volumes are numbered: 2011-2 (has articles A-M), 2011-4 (articles A-H), and 2012-2 (articles A-S). Apparently it will not be one alphabetical order A-Z as with most “encyclopedias.”

Brill’s website says “EI3 appears in four substantial parts each year

Would it be preferable to catalog this as a monographic set or as a serial? Are their good reasons to prefer one method over the other?
