Palgrave Pivot
confirmed to launch on 30th October 2012
Palgrave
Pivot will officially launch with its first publications on 30th
October 2012. A market-changing initiative from publisher
Palgrave Macmillan, Palgrave Pivot breaks down the boundaries
of academic publishing by enabling authors to publish their
research at lengths between that of a journal article and a
scholarly monograph. Publishing within 12 weeks of acceptance
after full peer-review, new research will reach the market
quickly for greater impact.
Published digitally, titles will be
available to libraries through their library supplier or via
Palgrave Connect. They will also be offered as digitally-
produced print editions or as ebooks for individuals.
Palgrave
Pivot launches with more than 20 titles which include Fukushima by David
Elliott, Co-Director of the Open University Energy and
Environment Research Unit, UK; Preparing for Life in Humanity
2.0 by Steve Fuller, Professor of Sociology at
the University of Warwick, UK; Reflections on Global and
Transnational History by Harvard University
professor Akira Iriye, USA; and Sporting Times, written
by Professor Kath Woodward of the Open University, UK, during
the Olympics, making it one of the first scholarly
publications on the 2012 Olympics.
The positive
response from the academic community has been overwhelming,
with a wide range of titles currently in development across
the Humanities, Social Sciences and Business.
Endorsements
“Palgrave Pivot meets a need for
timely research in the digital world. The humanities and
social sciences have been left behind in the immediacy of
published research and Palgrave Pivot should be a great
innovation to meet the needs of 21st century students and
researchers in these fields. As we know, ‘speed’ and
‘innovation’ are key in the current world of scholarly
research”, Jane
Fitzpatrick, Acquisitions Librarian,
"This is a bold
innovation. Whereas publishing these days is too often
belatedly reactive rather than proactive, Palgrave Macmillan
has created an exciting new form to occupy the middle ground
between a journal article and a monograph that will have
significant impact on future work in the Humanities and Social
Sciences", Eric Rasmussen,
Chair of the Department of English,
“This new
format is innovative”, Professor
Cary L. Cooper, CBE, Distinguished Professor of
Organizational Psychology and Health, Lancaster University
Management School, UK, and Chair of the Academy of Social
Sciences, UK
“[Palgrave
Pivot] is an exciting and timely innovation on Palgrave's
part; at a time when academic publishing feels more
restrictive than ever, as regards the possible formats and
outlets for scholarly work, and with the deluge of online
disinformation overload, Palgrave Pivot offers a significant
opportunity to foster and cultivate a more vibrant and current
intellectual commons”, Eileen
A. Joy, Southern
