Palgrave Macmillan launch ‘Build Your Own Collections’ and the ‘Connect
Acquisitions Portal’ on Palgrave Connect

Palgrave Macmillan is pleased to announce the launch of ‘Build Your Own
Collections’ on Palgrave Connect, a new ebook purchasing model which will
provide librarians with greater flexibility.

Palgrave’s extensive list of 9,500 ebook titles across the Humanities, Business
and Social Sciences will continue to be available as part of our
popular ‘Subject Collections’ organised by year, however this new purchasing
model enables librarians to construct their own bespoke ebook collections.

‘…Librarians tell us that they value our pre-defined subject collections but we
have listened to their desire to have the option of more flexible ways to buy
ebooks should they require it. Build Your Own Collections offers them the
opportunity to purchase titles specific to their library and patrons; be that
from one discipline, multiple disciplines or interdisciplinary subject areas.’ –
Samantha Burridge, Executive Director at Palgrave Macmillan

Using our specially designed Connect Acquisition Portal (CAP), librarians are
able to receive real-time quotes for purchasing titles on the Build Your Own
Collections model. This user-friendly ebooks acquisition tool offers librarians
further benefits including the ability to run bulk ISBN searches, save searches
and save multiple lists that can be amended, shared with other colleagues or
ordered at a later date*. MARC21 records are also supplied as soon as orders
are processed in the form of either Nielsen BookData records from CAP or via
WorldCat Cataloging Partners for OCLC members.

Subscribers will benefit from all the features and functionality available on the
Palgrave Connect Platform including;

- Simultaneous print and online program with new frontlist titles added monthly
ensuring access to the most up to date publications

- Unlimited concurrent access both on-site and remotely allowing all titles to
be accessed no matter the number of users

- Permissive DRM with the ability to print, copy and download

- EPUB format available for all ebooks from 2011 and 2012 (in addition to PDF)
for compatibility with e-readers.

PRESS RELEASE

The IBZ Online Database Now Features Open Access Journals

Berlin, 28 June 2012 – IBZ Online, an international index of journal literature in the humanities and social sciences, now lists 1,323 open access journals that have never before been systematically indexed. Thanks to this new content, IBZ Online will add an additional 5,000 journal issues to its database each year, including 16,000 articles and 21,000 abstracts. The database is updated on an ongoing basis, and now contains over 3.3 million articles from approximately 11,500 journals.

IBZ Online helps to make the latest findings in the humanities and social sciences accessible to academia. Content is indexed with a keyword system that uses an interdisciplinary approach and features intentional overlap in the natural sciences. The database registers publications in over 40 languages.

"As open access journals in the humanities and social sciences are becoming increasingly significant, it is important for our customers and users that this content be included in IBZ database," Bettina Bartz, De Gruyter's Editorial Director for General Reference, said. "The editorial department would be happy to receive recommendations concerning additional journals that are not featured in the database and which are promising candidates for inclusion."

For over 100 years, the IBZ index has been the leading international reference database for journal articles in the humanities, social sciences, and neighboring fields. The range of fields encompassed by the index is one of a kind: no other database contains a broader pool of journal literature.

The 2011 Impact Factors, published by Thomson Reuters, once again show significant growth for many of the journals published by IOP Publishing (IOP) for the eighth year running.

This year, 34 of the titles published by IOP have seen an increase in citations over last year. Additionally, 17 titles have had an increase of over 10% while 50% of IOP's journals have Impact Factors above 2.000.

Nicola Gulley, Editorial Director of IOP Publishing said: "We are delighted with the results this year. Once again, the quality and influence of the journals published by IOP have been recognized. In many cases the journals are now leaders in their fields. This is a great recognition of the work of the authors, referees, boards and editors who continue to contribute to the success of the journals."

There were high performances from individual journals:
  • In the Journal of Physics series there have been significant increases for Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter (2.546), Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics (2.544) and Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics (4.178).

  • As relative newcomers in the journals' market, both Environmental Research Letters (3.631) and Journal of Neural Engineering (3.837) have established themselves with significant increases in Impact Factor this year.

  • New Journal of Physics, our first open access title which is published in partnership with Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft, received its highest ever Impact Factor of 4.177.
    • Nanotechnology (3.979) and Reports on Progress in Physics (14.720) both enjoyed significant increases, and are both the largest of their kind: Nanotechnology in publishing full length primary research devoted to all aspects of nanoscale science and technology, and Reports on Progress in Physics, the biggest review journal in its category.
    • In the field of materials science, Science and Technology of Advanced Materials, an open access journal funded by National Institute for Materials Science, has increased to 3.513 and Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering has increased by 66% to 2.298.

We are very pleased to be able to share this great news with the library community and thank you for your continued support.

    Sincerely,
    Sharice
