The University of the Pacific Library seeks 2 well-qualified professional librarians with energy, initiative, and vision to provide effective leadership in the provision of innovative library services in the sciences. The librarian’s role in the academy is changing, and that change is particularly apparent in the sciences. Pacific librarians respond to the environment of change by supporting learning and research through productive partnerships with faculty and students resulting in the development of distinctive services and collections.

 

Health Sciences Librarian.

Develops and delivers a range of innovative library services and content supporting the curricular and research needs of students and faculty in the health sciences, including chemistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, dentistry and dental hygiene at Pacific’s Stockton campus as well as the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. Directs the Health Sciences Branch Library (2FTE staff; 1.25FTE student assistants). Provides reference assistance, instruction, and outreach services. Employs new technologies in pursuit of teaching and learning that extends library/information guidance and research assistance beyond the physical building. Selects print and electronic resources in support of curriculum and research. Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science. Academic degree in chemistry or the natural sciences, or demonstrated equivalent gained through experience in an academic health sciences or science library. Experience with mobile devices, social networking, and other new technology applications and their use and potential for the delivery of library resources and services. Salary from $50K negotiable.

 

Electronic Resources/Sciences & Technology Librarian.  Coordinates and manages selection, acquisition, licensing, and evaluation of all electronic resources, including establishing and maintaining budget guidelines for electronic resources and for testing, evaluating, and recommending electronic resources. Develops and delivers innovative public, digital, and collection services that facilitate the curricular and research needs of students and faculty in the sciences, including engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, and other natural and physical sciences departments (to be determined). Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science.  Academic degree in the natural sciences or engineering discipline, or the demonstrated equivalent gained through experience in an academic science or engineering library. Experience with mobile devices, social networking, and new technology applications for the delivery of library resources and services. Salary from $50K negotiable.
