Mississippi State University Libraries seeks innovative, dynamic team-oriented applicants for the tenure-track Assistant Professor/Serials Librarian position. The successful applicant for this faculty position serves as a member of a team of information professionals committed to the development, implementation, and management of policies and procedures leading to the successful acquisition, access, preservation, and fiscal control of serial resources in all formats. The Serials Librarian is a Team Leader, reporting to the Associate Dean for Technical Services.
DUTIES - Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
· Collaborate with relevant personnel and departments in planning, setting goals, and monitoring work flows concerning the physical processing of print serials (including check-in, claiming, title maintenance, and binding);
· Solve complex problems that arise during the processing of serial resources;
· Oversee the management of serial orders and invoices within the acquisitions module of the libraries’ SirsiDynix Symphony integrated library system;
· Supervise three serials staff members; participate in the training of serials department staff;
· Assist in the authentication, activation, and maintenance of e-serials;
· Manage and carry out procedures pertaining to the processing of invoices for microform and print serials resources;
· Maintain ongoing contacts with publishers and vendors;
· Collaborate with serials cataloging to assist with record maintenance;
· Keep abreast of current trends, standards, and developments in the serials industry regarding vendor-developed services, resources, automated systems, and publishing models;
· Participate in appropriate collection development activities as a library liaison to one or more academic departments;
· Meet library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service, and collegiality.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or international equivalent;
· 1-3 years relevant library experience;
· Supervisory and management experience;
· Knowledge of current trends in the management and access of electronic resources;
· Experience with an automated library system;
· High level of familiarity with computers;
· Experience with spreadsheets, preferably MS Excel.
· Strong analytical and organizational skills;
· Effective interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written;
· Ability to set and adjust priorities and work flows in a dynamic and changing environment and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals;
· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
· Ability to carry out professional research and service necessary to meet library and university requirements for promotion and tenure.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Additional graduate degree;
· Previous library experience working with electronic resources;
· Experience with the acquisition and serials modules of the SirsiDynix Symphony integrated library system;
· Experience with EBSCO serials management products, including EBSCONet, A-to-Z Administrator, and ERM-Essentials;
· Experience working with vendors and subscription agents;
· Knowledge of serials cataloging (print and electronic);
Excellent benefits package; faculty rank, privileges and responsibilities; 12 month appointment. Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience, minimum $42,360.
