ALCTS webinar: The CONSER Standard Record: Where Are We Now?

Date: October 5, 2011
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time.

Description: The CONSER Standard Record (CSR) is a set of serials cataloging guidelines used by CONSER catalogers in the creation and maintenance of serial catalog records. The intent of the CSR was to streamline serials cataloging by no longer requiring unessential and/or redundant elements and eliminating unnecessary decision points in the cataloging process. This session will provide an overview of the guidelines and will discuss implementation issues through the use of examples. There will also be a short discussion of current thought in the CONSER Program about its use within an RDA framework.

Audience: Catalogers who have at least a passing familiarity with AACR2/MARC serials cataloging practice and other library staff who work with serial cataloger records on a regular basis

Presenter: Steve Shadle is Serials Access Librarian at the University of Washington Libraries. He co-developed the E-Serials Cataloging Workshop for the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP) and serves as a trainer SCCTP courses.  Formerly, Steve was an ISSN cataloger at the US ISSN Center at the Library of Congress and Head of Technical Services at the U.S. Agency for International Development Library.  He is a recipient of the Ulrich's Serials Librarianship Award and current NASIG president.
