Sarah,

I would be interested to know what others are doing as well.  We are looking into the same thing.  Thanks!

Best,

Subject: [SERIALST] Electronic processing of theses

Greetings

I need some pointers from any of you who work at a university where theses and dissertations are submitted electronically.   I know that Baylor University no longer handles any paper copies, and I am not necessarily concerned about an institutional repository jus yet.  I am mostly interested in procedures for having the students upload their theses directly to the contracted bindery company and/or directly to ProQuest for indexing.   I have some information from our contract bindery and from ProQuest, but I am looking for internal procedures mostly.   Does the Graduate Office help the students upload their files?   Are the students required to pay for any bound copies for housing in the library or university archives?   What happens with the original signature page?   (Some of the staff in our Graduate Office were primarily worried about the signature page.  I like Baylor's practice of keeping the original signature page in the Graduate Office, if that's still their practice.)

The library director and I are finally meeting with the Dean of Graduate Studies this afternoon to discuss electronic handling of theses and dissertations.  I have some information, but any supporting practices would help immensely.

Thanks!  Please answer off-list at least initially.  If there is expressed interest in this topic, I will be glad to share.
