The Cleveland Museum of Art has an opening in its Information Technology department for a Systems Librarian. The Systems Librarian administers and maintains the museum’s library automation systems and archival collection management systems (currently including OCLC; ExLibris ALEPH, MetaLib, and SFX; and a variety of open-source and custom LAMP applications), and maintains the library/archives website and local electronic resource repositories. He/She tracks technology advances and standards in library and information science, suggests appropriate solutions to improve the automated functionality of the library/archives, and leads implementation efforts. The Systems Librarian serves as the liaison between IT and the library/archives, and works on teams in both departments.
Qualified candidates will have a Master’s degree in library and information science (M.L.S. or M.L.I.S.) from an ALA-accredited institution; two to five years experience in library automation or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Two to five years direct experience managing commercial integrated library systems and bibliographic utilities, fluency in Oracle/SQLPlus and XML/PHP/HTML authoring, and a strong knowledge of MARC, MARCXML, and EAD exchange formats are necessary. Experience with 3M RFID and DLA devices, and SIP2 desired. Candidates must have the ability to work with staff and patrons with varying levels of technical expertise, and a good understanding of the function, goals, and objectives of research libraries and institutional archives.
