We originally setup  eSerials holdings when we were a client of Serials Solutions. The set up was really simple. Fill in the form on the OCLC site, flip a toggle in the Serials Solutions client center and forget about it. Our vendor moved the files to OCLC.

We have since migrated to a hosted, open source, ERMS/link resolver. Upkeep is a bit more work, but nor unreasonable. We move our own files to OCLC, based on our monthly bibliographic record loads.

Sometimes something slips through to the ILL chain. I tend to find that with aggregated databases the title lists are sometimes less than accurate. That is  a situation that is upstream of our ERMS host, so we just let them know and it gets corrected. I can’t say that we had any major challenges.

Since you are on AFX, I suspect that your experience will more closely align with ours when we were on Serials Solutions.

Subject: [SERIALST] OCLC eSerials Holdings Service

Good morning,

Our library is interested in subscribing to the OCLC eSerials Holdings Service. I was wondering if anyone is willing to share their experience/process in using this service. How was set up?  Where is your title and ISSN data being harvested from? How much maintenance is required? Does it work well with your ILL service? What advantages do you see in using this service? What challenges have you encountered?

I understand that this is a free service to OCLC members. Has your library come across any unexpected fees or costs associated with using this service?

We are a SFX library and would love to hear from any other SFX libraries that are using this service.

Best,

Denise
