ASSISTANT HEAD, ELECTRONIC RESOURCE
MANAGEMENT
Reporting to the Head of the
Resource Management Department in the Library’s Scholarly Resources
Division, the Assistant Head is responsible for acquisition of all materials
with special emphasis on electronic resources purchasing, licensing, access, and
maintenance. The librarian in this position will bring to bear a broad
and deep understanding of the complexities of acquisitions, electronic resource
management and related technical services best practices; will be expected to
provide leadership, innovation, and enthusiasm in charge of the work of the
E-Resource Management unit; and will have responsibility for hiring, training,
motivating, and evaluating staff, and for managing the priorities and
day-to-day activities of the unit. The successful candidate will interact
regularly with a range of the Library’s materials vendors (including
publishers) to solve problems, while working closely with other units of the
Department and the Division, as well as with other library departments, to
support collection development, test new software, develop new systems, and
move forward the Library’s ambitious digital program.
Qualifications
·
ALA-accredited
Master's degree in Library Science required; additional advanced degree
desirable.
·
At least 3 years
demonstrated successful experience in increasingly responsible positions
managing or supervising acquisitions, serials, license negotiation, electronic
resource management in academic or research libraries required.

Demonstrated
knowledge of established and emerging national and international standards
relating to acquisitions, serials, electronic resource management, and resource
licensing and copyright.
·
Some experience
with cooperative programs, consortial initiatives, and operational workflow
analyses desirable.
·
Knowledge of trends
and issues in academic libraries, scholarly communications, higher education,
publishing, preservation, and emerging technologies.
·
Excellent planning,
analytical, interpersonal, communication, supervisory, project management and
organizational skills.
·
Ability to work
internally and externally with a wide variety of individuals at all levels, a
strong service orientation, and a demonstrated commitment to staff development
and diversity in the workplace.
