Subject: [SERIALST] Permission to Elsevier to index journal?

Serials colleagues:

A faculty colleague of mine just received a letter from Elsevier saying they wanted to index in SCOPUS the journal he edits. (The journal is published open-access on our Digital Commons platform.)

I'll copy part of the letter below. Does this faculty member have any cause for concern in terms of Elsevier claiming any rights on the journal? Any advice? Being indexed is obviously a good thing, but the faculty member's level of trust is shaky...

Please be assured that, although for indexation purposes only, we do require access to the full text of your publication. We never make the full text available to our customers or any other third parties. Please note that your publication may be selected for other Elsevier products.

We would be pleased if you would complete and return the attached Coverage Form granting us permission to index your journal at your earliest convenience.

thanks,
andree
