**Apologies for cross posting**
The UKSG is keen to alert LIS students, educators and researchers to a valuable FREE guide to the issues and challenges facing those in the information community. In a review by the Charleston Advisor, Rick Anderson (who has since become a co-editor of the ERMH) called The E- Resources Management Handbook "a welcome addition to the literature on e-resource acquisitions and management".
The E-Resources Management Handbook incorporates 21 chapters covering licensing, statistics, archiving, resource discovery, marketing and ERM systems among many other topics. As a "living" e-book, chapters are reviewed periodically and updated when necessary - but they are never removed, even when superseded, so that the book is an evolving record of the state of the field.
Recently added content includes a new chapter explaining how impact factors are calculated and what variables need to be considered when evaluating them, and a set of interviews with thought leaders from all sections of the information community. Forthcoming updates include chapters on peer review, repositories, e-learning and the semantic web.
Described as "essential reading for anyone involved in the management and use of electronic resources" by Professor Charles Oppenheim, Department of Information Science at Loughborough University, we hope that this unique resource will be of practical help to students, tutors and practitioners in the field.
The Handbook is completely free and available at http://serials.uksg.org - no registration necessary. As it is regularly updated, we'd also welcome ideas for new chapters and author suggestions – please send your thoughts to marketing@uksg.org.
