Brooker welcomed the second installment of the Gainesville TT Challenge
with gusty winds but sunny skies. The majority of the "usual suspects"
were a no show, most of them making up some excuse about having their
hearts broken on the 7th. But still, four brave souls marched forward
and took up the challenge.
There was wind. There was exquisite pain. There were tears. There was
coughing. And there might have even been the lovely taste of bile, as
each of the challengers turned themselves inside-out trying to put down
the fastest time they could over the 15k course.
30 minutes after the first person was sent from the starting gates, we
had our victors, which each took home a prize courtesy of Supercool Bike
Shop.
Living life in the fast lane, Derek Schanze took home the prize for the
fastest overall time of the day, with a number that put him in the
drivers seat for the Merckx category series champion. Justin Runac,
rocking out on his new Canondale Slice, put his name at the top of the
leaderboard for the Aero competition. And everyone else told me they
had fun.
