The Freewheel Project needs 20" kids bikes and volunteers!

Hey GCCers!
The Freewheel Project is hosting a “Cycle Summer Send Off” event on
Sunday, June 4 from 10am to 2pm. We’ve invited students from Metcalfe
Elementary, Rawlings Elementary, and Duval Early Learning Academy to
stop by The Freewheel Project and get their bikes ready for a safe and
active summer. We will be providing free safety checks, repairs, and
helmet fittings for these students. We’re excited to give away the
helmets we’ve received from UF’s Bike/Ped Safety Resource Center!
Each participating school has selected up to 12 students to receive a
refurbished bike from us. As we begin setting these bikes aside for
the students according to their heights, we’re discovering that we
need more bikes with 20” wheels! If you or anyone you know happens to
have a 20” kids bike that has been outgrown, we ask that you donate it
to our shop or come trade it in for one of our used 24” bikes.
The Freewheel Project is also seeking volunteers to help us prepare
for this event.
We will be having our bike repair clinic at The Freewheel Project on
Saturday from 10am to 1pm. Volunteers will work on kids bikes to get
them ready for donation-- no experience necessary. If you are
available to volunteer on June 4, we need volunteers with basic bike
maintenance skills to help us conduct safety checks and repairs.
Certified helmet fitters are needed to properly fit and distribute
helmets. We will need other volunteers to provide general support and
work the snack table!
If you’d like to volunteer or have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact us via Facebook message or send us an email at
xxxxxx@gmail.com. If you have a bike to donate, feel free to
drop it off at our shop, 618 S Main St, Suite A, any time during
business hours. We are open 1-8pm Tuesday and Wednesday, and 1-6pm
Thursday through Saturday.
Thanks!
