GCCMail: Earth Day Interpretive Ride
George Edwards 14 Apr 2009 10:29 EDT
Dear Friends:
In honor of Earth Day, Paynes Prairie will do an interpretive bicycle
ride on the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail this Saturday 18 April, starting
from the South parking lot at Boulware Springs City Park, next to the
historic old pump house at 8:30 AM. For information about this ride,
please go to the Friends of Paynes Prairie website at
www.prairiefriends.org, and click on the bike ride link. Note that
there is a suggested $5 donation to Friends for this ride, which goes to
protect and preserve the Trail.
Several GCC members have already taken this ride, but I thought there
may be new members who would be interested in the natural and cultural
history of this part of Florida, or others who had missed earlier
versions. Easy ride with many stops to discuss the many interesting
things found along the Trail, and we leave no one behind. If you and/or
your bike totally collapse along the Trail, we will come back with a
Park vehicle to get you.
If you plan to join us, please call EITHER the Visitor Center at
466.4100 and tell them to record your reservation in the Ranger Led
Activities notebook under "Bike Ride and Geology Hike" (remember you are
dealing with volunteers), or call me direct at 333.3184.
As always, we will repair to a local eatery after to replenish our
energy supplies. Probably Satchel's, if that suits the majority.
See you Saturday morning.
George
