Re: GCCMail: Bicyclist critically injured after crash Joseph N. Wilson 19 Sep 2009 20:58 EDT

It's quite dangerous to yell "clear" in an attempt to help
other riders pass through an intersection more quickly.
Even though I know this is dangerous, I still have the urge
to help (?) people by doing it.

I hope we can all keep our fellow riders safer
by putting an end to this practice.

Saw this on the Gville Sun's site. It was on the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail.

Seems as though he ran a stop sign. I'm not quite sure which
intersection, but there's quite a few of them on the Trail are so
obvious. Good practice too if you're a rider say a good length behind
another they proceed though the intersection and yell "Clear" don't
heed that. You should stop and check traffic. What was "clear" for
them, might not before you.

I learned not to do that during a Road 1 class a few years ago on the
Florida Discovery ride.

Safe riding out there.
