I bike from Gainesville to Crescent Beach during the summer. It's a 75 mile
ride and wonderful when you have a West wind. Here is the route I take.

<blockquote style="border-left: #5555EE solid 0.2em; margin: 0em; padding-left: 0.85em">From Gainesville take SR 26 East (no bike lane from NW 22 St until NE 55
</blockquote>Blvd).
As SR26 bears left at NE 55 Blvd your bike lane will begin. Stay on SR26
East.
There is a bike lane until you cross SR21 in Melrose.
Continue on SR 26 East (about 5 miles without a bike lane, a few dogs here,
but never a close encounter) until you T-bone into SR100. (there is a store
here that let's you bring your bike inside while you get drinks and snacks).
Turn Right on SR 100 East
Head East on SR100 through Palatka.
Once you get into Palatka your bike lane ends and you are riding with
traffic like on Newberry Rd near the Oaks Mall for a few miles. Watch out
for road debris. I get a lot of flats here in Palatka, and there are no
bike shops anywhere nearby. Be prepared.
Go over the bridge (nice road on the other side so have fun).
Shortly after the bridge is the 207 junction. Turn Left onto SR207 North.
Your bike lane starts up again and it is a nice scenic ride from here.
Travel through Hastings on SR207 North.
Turn right on SR206 East and go until A1A.
Turn right and go 500 feet. The entrance to the beach is on your left.
Watch out for sand on your bike...

Have fun...

I usually ride there on Saturday mornings (during the summer) and my wife
meets me at the beach with the kids. We spend the day at the beach, then I
drive home. If you're interested, let me know when you plan on traveling
there. I would love a riding companion getting there, and I could offer you
a ride home in the evening.

Mike

We need a handful of bicyclists garbed in colorful native attire to
decorate the GHT on Friday morning 5 May as background for some film
(well, tape, actually) of the Trail. If you are interested, please
contact me by email or phone at 333.3184.

Cheers,

George
