GCCMail: A-Riders Weekend - South / North
Jayson O'Mahoney 10 Feb 2010 22:33 EST
Saturday-SOUTH, January 30th: Meet at 9am, depart at 9:15am. Lots of
racing happening this weekend so many of the regulars may be hammering
out of town.
Sunday-NORTH, January 31st: Meet at 9am, depart at 9:15am.
About the A-Riders :
Helmets are required on all GCC Rides. Expect mileage to be in the
50-70+ range with one rest stop. Routes are determined prior to the
ride depending on which way the wind is blowing and who shows up.
Routes are agreed upon by consensus the morning of and may change en
route. Speed is consistently 20+ mph during the ride with surges
exceeding 25 mph (and sometimes 30 mph). A-Riders do respect all road
safety rules, but do not respect a specific speed limit, especially
after the rest stop.
A-Riders call CLEAR or whatever works at intersections and are
experienced enough to use common sense without starting a 50 page
email discussion. We will often regroup at major intersections before
the rest stop, but not necessarily after the rest stop.
A-Riders know how to dress appropriately for the weather. Looking
cool even if you get dropped is important. Additional brownie points
are awarded to those who wear matching kits / aero shoe covers, etc.
Additional good taste points go to those who ride bikes equipped with
Campagnolo components.
NORTHERN ROUTES:
MEET: At the Chevron station @ NW 43rd St and 53rd Ave (Hunters
Crossing and Millhopper Road)
PARK: In along NW 43rd St. Start at the north end and work south. Do
not park in the slots alongside the station or along NW 53rd Ave. DO
NOT use the business lots east of the Chevron on Saturdays. Overflow
parking is along the short east-west street south of the station.
Please watch where you are standing; do not block the flow of traffic
going to the pumps. If you care about carbon emissions, you'll make
an effort to RIDE rather than DRIVE to the ride start.
SOUTHERN ROUTES:
MEET: At the "Kangaroo" on the NW corner of SW 34th St and Williston
Road... just like Outback Steakhouse, there is nothing Australian
about this marsupial wannabe petrol station.
PARK: At the end of SW 47th Ave just east of 34th Street across from
the big Post Office. Please do not loiter in the parking area. Parking
also may be available at the south end of the Publix parking lot. If
you park in the Publix parking lot please park as close to 34th Street
as possible. We want to keep the spots close to the stores open for
shoppers, hopefully we can keep a low profile and not become a problem
to the businesses in the plaza. Thanks for your help with this!
