Dear Dr. Mowery,

I've made the ride to St. Augustine several times.  I agree with the rout
outlined by Michael Wohl with one exception.  Heading east 26 narrows as it
exits Melrose.  Its the only part of the trip without a "bike lane."  It
also has some serious rolling hills that serve to obscure your visibility.
I prefer to turn left on 219 about 1/4 miles outside Melrose.  It is less
hilly and much less traveled.  It heads a little more to the NE,  goes to
the north of Swan Lake, and then connects to 100.  The road condition is a
little worse and it adds about an extra 1/2 mile to the trip.  Even so I
think it is a safer alternative.  I hope this helps.  Charlie McGee
