GCCMail: Traditional GCC Christmas Day Ride chanbike@xxxxxx 20 Dec 2010 11:22 EST

GCC will revive its traditional Christmas Day ride on Saturday, Dec. 25 starting from Library West on the UF campus. Riders should meet at 9 :00 a.m. for a 9:15 start time.

Though this is being organized by the Hokey Pokies, riders of all speeds and distance are welcome. Those riders wanting to ride faster and farther should come with a ride route in mind and we can organize different groups.

Hokey Pokey group captain Chandler will lead (actually follow) a 18-25 mile ride (at a very slow pace). Tentative route for the Pokies will be Newnans Lake with a return route on the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail. This route may be ammended by consensus.

Everyone is welcome is come on this ride (of course, you must wear a bike helmet). Don't worry about being slow, no one is slower than me and we never leave anyone behind.

The ride will be chaperoned by the ride leader who will ride at the back of the group to make sure no one gets lost. The ride leader is also a bicycle mechanic who can help fix flat tires and help with any other mechanical problems.

Historic note: For nearly 20 years, GCC rides met at Library West on the UF campus.

Directions to Ride Start: The ride start is at the front doors of Library West (George Smathers Library). The Library is on University Ave. in the 1500 block, however there is no car parking accesable from Univ. Ave. For car parking, please park in the parking lot next to Tigert Hall, at the SW 2nd Avenue entrance to the campus. The front doors of the Library are on the south side of the Library, facing the Plaza of the Americas.

If you have questions, please E-mail me.
