GCCMail: A-Riders Weekend - South / North Jayson O'Mahoney 13 Jan 2010 23:14 EST

This Saturday kicks off the new road racing season. The first event
is local to Gainesville and will be held at Progress Park in Alachua.
Cycle Logic is hosting the race so come on out to compete or to
spectate. There is an A race (Pro 1, 2 and Cat 3), Women's / Juniors
race and a B Race (Cat 4 and 5). Note the GCC is not affiliated in
any way with this event!

Attendance on this Saturday's A ride is likely to be affected with
many of the regulars racing. Keep this in mind so you don't end up
being lonely at the start! Additionally, the weather forecast is
looking very suspect with rain in the forecast :(

Saturday-SOUTH, January 16th: Meet at 9am, depart at 9:15am.

Sunday-NORTH, January 17th: Meet at 9am, depart at 9:15am.
Team Florida is hosting a Cemetery TT this Sunday, meeting at 9am at
Turlington Plaza on Campus. Something to consider if you like a free
test of your personal fitness with zero $ involved. Note the GCC is
not affiliated in any way with this event!

About the A-Riders :
Helmets are required on all GCC Rides. Expect mileage to be in the
50-70+ range with one rest stop. Routes are determined prior to the
ride depending on which way the wind is blowing and who shows up.
Routes are agreed upon by consensus the morning of and may change en
route. Speed is consistent 20 + mph during the ride. With surges
exceeding 25 mph (and sometimes 30 mph). A-Riders do respect all road
safety rules, but do not respect a specific speed limit, especially
after the rest stop. We will often regroup at major intersections
before the rest stop, but not necessarily after the rest stop.
A-Riders know how to dress appropriately for the weather - busting out
an Assos Fugujack Jacket to look sharp in 27 degree weather is the
only way to roll.

NORTHERN ROUTES:
MEET: At the Chevron station @ NW 43rd St and 53rd Ave (Hunters
Crossing and Millhopper Road)

PARK: In along NW 43rd St. Start at the north end and work south. Do
not park in the slots alongside the station or along NW 53rd Ave. DO
NOT use the business lots east of the Chevron on Saturdays. Overflow
parking is along the short east-west street south of the station.
Please watch where you are standing; do not block the flow of traffic
going to the pumps.

SOUTHERN ROUTES:
MEET: At the "Kangaroo (formerly Le Store)" on the NW corner of SW 34
th St and Williston Road.

PARK: At the end of SW 47th Ave just east of 34th Street across from
the big Post Office. Please do not loiter in the parking area. Parking
also may be available at the south end of the Publix parking lot. If
you park in the Publix parking lot please park as close to 34th Street
as possible. We want to keep the spots close to the stores open for
shoppers, hopefully we can keep a low profile and not become a problem
to the businesses in the plaza. Thanks for your help with this!
