New Battlers and Slower Battlers,
If you're new to the Battle this Sunday, it's a long ride home if you
get dropped when the racing starts. There are many new and fit, but
less experienced riders doing the Battle from what I hear. So . . .
Some brief time after the halfway point/rest stop, I will be sitting
on the back of the pack waiting for shelled riders. If you get
dropped, you should be able to turn around and find a few of us in a
pack. It's easier, quicker, and more fun to ride in this way. Now,
let's be straight and blunt, if you're riding way beyond yourself and
can only go 14mph, you may be on your own. But if you're, say, Glider
and above, you'll have a shoulder to cry on and a red lantern to guide
you home.
To make this work better for you less experienced riders, when you get
dropped, slow down, take a breather, and wait for us to come up on
you. Or if you're the first one on the "train," be ready for some
easy recovery and then a slow ramp-up back to light cruising speed as
we collect the faster shelled riders. We will stop again on the way
in, unlike the main field.
Let's enjoy each other's company, even if the race has left us up the road.
Cheers,
James Thompson
