GCCMail: Disaster Relief George Edwards 03 Sep 2005 09:11 EDT

Dear Friends;

I realize this is off the direct subject for this restricted listserv,
but sometimes there are needs which transcend our narrow personal
interests. All of us are aware of the extent of human suffering
happening along the western Gulf Coast. GCC member Ron Hall, who works
for the Alachua County Housing Authority, has asked for help for the
Katrina Refugees who have ended up in our community needing shelter,
food, and other necessities. Please send a donation to Ron's attention
at the Alachua County Housing Authority, 703 NE 1st Street, Gainesville
FL 32601.

But let us not stop there. Please send even more to any of the various
charities who are collecting money for relief efforts. The Red Cross,
the Salvation Army, virtually all churches, and other will accept
donations - take your pick. Be sure to mark your check "for Hurricane
Katrina Relief Effort Only" or some similar restrictive wording to make
sure your money is used for the specific purpose of Hurricane Katrina
relief (remembering what happened to some of our donations after 9/11).

Americans (statements of whiney UN bureaucrats to the contrary
notwithstanding) are the most generous people in the history of the
World - let us continue in that tradition and help our fellow citizens
in their time of need.

Thanks for your generosity.

George
