GCCMail: Interpretive Ride on the Prairie This Saturday George Edwards 11 Apr 2007 19:19 EDT

Dear Friends:

We have some reservations available for the Paynes Prairie Preserve
State Park Interpretive Bike Ride on the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail
this Saturday, 14 April. This is a slow, short ride to talk about the
history, geology, hydrology, wildlife, etc. of Paynes Prairie and its
importance to the Gainesville and Alachua County communities. Not
recommended for Real Cyclists, but of interest to people who are
interested in things. To make a reservation call 466-4100 and speak to
the volunteer about the ride. There is a $5 suggested donation, which
goes to support activities of the Preserve, including the GHT. Often we
go to Satchel's for a slice afterwards.

The start is at 9:00 AM from Boulware Springs Park, the parking lot
nearest to the big white pumphouse (South entrance - look for the yellow
sign).

Bring questions about water resources, when people first came to this
area, how they got here, what animals they found living here, the
history of sea level, climate, and how that history affected
Gainesville, and other neat stuff.

Cheers,

George
