GCCMail: Five Volunteer Cyclists Needed - Sunday 2/18/07 Richard Ritari 08 Jan 2007 11:51 EST

Five volunteer cyclists are needed as escorts for the lead runners in the
Five Points of Life Marathon on Sunday, February 18, 2007. Two cyclists
would escort the Lead Male & Female runners in the Full-Marathon (26.2
miles), two cyclists would escort the Lead Male/Female runners in the
Half-Marathon (13.1 miles) and one cyclist would escort the lead wheelchair
athlete in the Full-Marathon.

All races start at 7:00 a.m., with the lead runners expected to finish
around 8:15-8:30 a.m. for the Half-Marathon and around 9:30-10:00 a.m. for
the Full-Marathon. The only prerequisite for being an escort is that you
must ride the course at least once before race day to know where to lead the
runners you will be escorting. (The course will be well marked and we have
detailed maps as well)

The type of bicycle (road bike vs mountain bike) is optional as the course
stays on paved surfaces the entire time. (Some of last year's escorts
preferred mountain bikes due to the moderate pace they were riding at.)

This is a large-scale community event, with a tour of the entire city of
Gainesville and the UF campus. More information about the marathon itself
can be found at: http://www.fivepointsoflife.com/5PointsMarathon.html.

I personally am on the race committee and have been involved with this
marathon for four years. I also happen to have designed the marathon course
itself, so feel free to fire any questions my way.

Thanks,

Richard Ritari
