GCCMail: BPAB and 16th Ave
james thompson 16 Mar 2010 13:24 EDT
GCC,
I wrote some of you personally, but I want to reiterate publicly how
important it is to work with the BPAB, such as GCCers Ken Duffield and
Andy Gill, to solve the 16th Ave. problem. Writing individual emails
and especially printed letters is important, but the BPAB is and has
been our best tool for making Gainesville a great place to commute.
They are a large part of the reason Gainesville has a Silver Star from
the League of American Bicyclists for commutability and have been in
on every step of the corridor remodeling. I urge you to personally
speak with BPAB and the Commisioners so that we all understand exactly
what is being proposed, what we want done, and what is best for
commuters.
Among the three options in the current proposal are one or two that
may not support the kind of commuting we need for this long (and
therefore high speed) corridor. Be sure to read the prior posts and
council minutes in their entirety so you can support specific
proposals that are already in play. All were made with good
intentions, but one is certainly better than the others. I leave it
to the commuters (like myself) to see which one of these plans isn't
like the other, and make your voice heard accordingly. Comments from
riders who use the corridor on a daily basis would, I think, be
especially fruitful.
Regards,
James Thompson
