GCCers,
Below is the letter I sent you about the important 16th Ave meeting
today (I'll be there early to schmooze, see time and place below). I
received input from about two dozen GCC members, which is pretty darn
awesome considering the size of our club, and the quality of the
comments. As your GCC Advocacy Director, I plan to observe and
report, but also to take my opportunity at the podium to express what
I view as general support (based on your letters) for the "bike lane"
option (see link below) of the plan. You almost unanimously wrote in
favor of this option, while admitting that any improvement would be
welcome. One rider supported the mixed use bike-ped lane, wisely
noting that it would be a good compromise and that it wasn't really
that bad of an option on an open, relatively flat, visible
thoroughfare like 16th Ave.
So, hope to see some of you there. If not, I'll be reporting on events.

James Thompson

Dear GCC,
The Public Works Department has scheduled a workshop with the Bicycle
and Pedestrian Advisory Board and the Gainesville Cycling Club to
discuss NW 16th Ave on June 7th at 5:30 PM downtown at the County
Administration building. I would like to attend the meeting with
anyone interested. If you can't come, I would be particularly
thankful of any input you have about the NW corridor improvements for
16th Ave. Last I checked, there were some good (expanded bike lanes)
and not so good (multi-use bike-ped sidewalks) options in the plan. I
am not a NW commuter, but I know many of you live NW and have
expressed interest in replacing some of your car miles with bike
miles, so this will affect you.
A brief summary of the project is here:

BPAB is a strong and vital input to local planning, so I suspect this
meeting will influence the outcome of any final decision.
