Dear Peter and All, Why not just join the South Florida Region Fleche which is being held over the week end of March 31, and ends in Clermont, Fl, just a few miles farther south than Gainesville? We have had the Fleche on our schedule for the past 2 years and can't seem to get anyone from Gainesville to join us. You might want to support a Fleche that is already on the RUSA Official Schedule. We do traditionally ride the event over the weekend for us working stiffs and try to arrive at the same times for the inpact of everyone coming in together. Also we celebrate with a photo opportunity and a big breakfast at Denny's and spend a couple of hours making new friends and revisiting old ones. It's not that far from Gainesville to Clermont. Why not ride from Gainesville to Clermont? If you can't get a full team together you could always join one of ours. Everyone is invited to join us on this great team event and celebration of Randonneuring. Please contact Michael E. Grussemeyer, RBA, South Central Florida Region if you would like to join one of our teams or form one of your own. www.bike4one.com xxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxx Ph:239-549-7459 Cell: 239-699-9548 BON VOYAGE! PBP IN AUGUST! Sincerely, Michael E. The end point of the Florida Fleche is in Gainesville. I am putting together a team to ride from near Gainesville north and back in a loop. I spoke with Joe Arnold, the organizing RBA, about the rules, and I checked them this morning, and we can make a route from near Gainesville - i.e., Williston, and finish in Gainesville. I'd like to invite you to join the team - keep it social, no heroics for speed or distance, stops to eat, relax, sightsee, whatever. A Fleche is a minimum 360 K in 24 hours. No stopping point can be more than 2 hours, and 25K has to be covered in the last 2 hours. The idea is to meet up with other teams, usually for a meal, then disperse. There can be a maximum of 5 members to a team, and 3 must finish togther for the team to suceed. Why ride a fleche? It is a ride the French love. For those not yet convinced, it is a requirement for a Super Randonneur 5000 medal, which includes PBP, a 1000K and 5000K of brevets in a four year period. The year I got mine, there were only about a dozen in the U.S.. The deadline for submitting a team is March 1, so please let me know. It is a team event, so once you commit, please keep in mind how important your participation would be to the team. Right now, there are two of us committed (to the fleche, not an institution) and we are looking for three more riders. se see ya, Peter "Seeing the U.S.A. one brevet at a time" Colorado, North Florida, NW Florida, Washington, BC Randonneurs... more to come! 321-794-0500 cell 352-275-5888 home Skype me at Peter.F.Noris Yes, I know British Columbia is in Canada. ____________________________________________________________________________ ________ Don't get soaked.
