GCCMail: OT: Hurricane Relief Fund Gary Greenberg 24 Sep 2005 12:49 EDT

Dear Friends,

The company I work for here in Gainesville, 3001 Inc, has numerous offices in
LA and along the gulf coast. Many employees lost their homes and all they
owned. Fortunately, no one was lost in the storm, but the damage inflicted on
these folks is devastating.
To help those folks, there is a 3001 Katrina Employee Relief
Fund established with the First Baptist Church of Westlake in Westlake,
LA. FYI: Westlake is a small town adjacent to Lake Charles where, until
Rita's arrival, had been the new home for many of our displaced New Orleans
co-workers.

We've all been deeply affected by this storm, and each of us is in a
different situation with respect to what we can do and how much we can
give. A day doesn't pass that I don't think, "What if that were me?"

Last weekend, I wondered again if there isn't more I can do to help my
co-workers. The answer is yes.

Some of you know my hobbies include making sawdust; over the past few
years, I've built quite a few pieces of furniture and accessories.

Included below are URL's to a small sampling of pictures of some items:

All the items pictured above are built of 100% solid wood using the
highest quality traditional furniture construction methods, such as
mortise and tenon joinery with pegs and each piece is finished using
hand-rubbed oils and custom blends appropriate to the wood used.

I've also built numerous cabinets, boxes, a child's rocking horse, chess
boards, mirror & picture frames, and the like. If there's something
you want but haven't seen it mentioned, feel free to contact me.

I'm offering custom built furniture and accessories to family & friends with
100% of the proceeds going to the 3001 Katrina
employee relief fund.

If you would like to purchase an item, for yourself, or as a
gift, or for one of our displaced employees, contact me via e-mail or
phone, and together we will work out the design including dimensions,
type of wood or woods, finish, and price of that item or items.

As the purchaser, you will send 100% of the purchase price to the relief
fund, and I will then build the item for you.

Each piece will have a Maker's Mark branded in an appropriate location
stating:

  Donated in Support of
Hurricane Katrina Relief

using an iron donated by Eagle America, a tool manufacturer.

Comparable items can be seen and ideas gleened from other furniture
builder's websites, such as the links found here:

Of course, anyone who would like to purchase a piece of furniture to be
donated to one of our displaced employees is more than welcome to do
that too. Contact me. Let's help the move the rebuilding process along.

Kind regards,

Gary
