GCCMail: this is not a discussion list Ken Sallot 07 Jan 2010 14:56 EST

Folks,

About a week ago, every member of the club that is listed as an
"A-Rider" was chided in email for using the GCC mailing list for things
other than announcing rides. This week I've noticed a continuing trend
for banter on the GCC listserv, but I do not recall seeing these people
on A-rides in the recent past. I can only assume that the email warning
must have missed the target..

I'm forwarding the notice I received out to all members of the GCC to
remind them that the GCC list is not a discussion list, but should be
reserved for announcements only. If you wish to partake in cycling
related discussions, you may wish to consider rec.cycling or any of the
myriad of web-forums out there.

Thanks,

RE: Gainesville Cycling Club Road Group A Riders

I can't help but notice that A Riders are responsible for a substantial portion of the traffic on GCCMail that does not meet the terms of service of GCCMail. GCCMail is an information distribution list; the conversational posts that are predominately sent by A Riders violate the terms of service (see the web site for more details).

You do have an option that is acually very easy to use once you've done it once or twice (this email is being sent using it). Log on to the Members Area and click on the "Email Group" button for the A Riders. You can send anything your fellow group members will put up with -- you guys set the terms among yourselves, if any.

It is important, for insurance purposes among others, that you do actual ride posts using GCCMail.
