GCCMail: Bread of the Mighty Food Drive Ken Sallot 27 Oct 2008 09:24 EDT

Dear Fellow GCC members:

Well it is that time of year again when things begin to cool off in
Gainesville and we begin to look toward the end of the year and the
holiday celebrations that it brings. However, as most of you know, it
has been a tough year financially for many families, including right
here in our own backyards. Many families who were slightly squeezed
before are now really squeezed financially and struggling.

Some of you may have seen some of the articles recently in the
Gainesville Sun about the Bread of the Might Food Bank(BOM) stating that
their shelves are almost bare due to the huge demand for food to help
make ends meet. For those of you who are not familiar with what the BOM
is they are "a warehouse that coordinates the acquisition and
distribution of food and basic essentials to non-profit organizations
that provide for the needy." They are currently providing food to five
surrounding counties.

I am coordinating a food drive between now and the end of the year to
help restock their shelves to help out families that are less
fortunate. If you would like to donate, please bring canned fruit,
canned vegetables, soup or any other non-perishable items such as pasta,
cooking oil, flour, rice, dried beans/lentils, granola bars and other
goods. If any of the normal grocery goods you purchase is on sale with
a buy-one get-one free deal, please consider donating the second
non-perishable item.

Additionally, if you have free time in the week and would like to help
more, please consider donating a hour or two to help out at the BOM.
They are located at 325 NW 10 Ave Gainesville (352) 336-0839.

The dates that we will be collecting food are November 2nd, 8th, 15th,
and 22nd. Please bring your donations to the GCC ride start and give
them to Ken Sallot.

Sunday, November 2nd -- North Ride Start
Saturday, November 8th -- South Ride Start
Saturday, November 15th -- North Ride Start
Saturday, November 22nd -- North Ride Start

If you can not make those times, but would like to donate to the food
drive, please send an email to 'food-drive at sallot.org' and we'll
make arrangements.

Once we donate the food, I will write-up the results for the January
newsletter.

Thank you,

Sandy Durham-Sallot
