I'll add my thoughts and prayers to Vicki & Huan for speedy and full recoveries.

All these accidents and near-encounters remind me of when I was young and
brash (or stupid).

When you can see the driver, especially at a right hand intersection,
do all you can to
make eye contact with the driver.
And, if you have the slightest inclination that the driver is going to
try to take your lane when you have the right of way, and you can't or
won't stop, point directly at the
driver while they're looking at you. I've never had a driver pull out
when they've been
pointed out. Never in more than 30,000 road miles.
