Hi fellow cycling club members,
The Florida Track Club is in need of 3 cyclists to ride alongside runners in the Newnan's Lake 15K race on January 19. The race begins at 8 am. The track club is offering free T-shirts to those who will do this. They are actually nice technical fabric. The run course is not a closed course, and cyclists are needed to ride alongside the runners to try to make sure they don't veer too far out into the road. There is not much traffic, and it's a very scenic route. Cyclists would need to make several circuits of the 15K out and back course over a period of two to two and half hours. You could probably get in about 25 miles or more, if you're the industrious sort.
The race begins at 8 am. Cyclists would need to be in place at Earl P. Powers Park on Newnan's Lake (5910 SE Hawthorne Road) by 7:30.

Post Season's Greetings from The Bike Route! Hope you all survived and enjoyed the holidays.
We are still alive and well at the new location. In case you didn't know, we moved...last May, to be exact, but hey, folks are busy. Come see us if you haven't already. You'll be glad you did.
It's San Felasco time again, this coming Saturday, January 12. The 400 entry slots sold out this year in six (6!) mailing days, so if you haven't registered yet, you're out of luck.
As has been the case since I took over the Route in 2004, we'll once again have the Cannondale Demo Truck in town for the event. There may even be a second truck as well...stay tuned...
Cannondale is bringing a whole fleet of road & mountain bikes, including:
SuperSix...domestic full carbon road;
SystemSix...domestic carbon front/alloy rear road;
Synapse SL...performance full carbon road;
Scalpel...newly redesigned domestic racing full carbon full-suspension;
Rush Carbon...carbon 4.5" FS;
Taurine...carbon racing hardtails;
29'ers...29'ers...duh
Among that grouping will be a full complement of women's-specific bikes, just for the ladies...
Depending on what time they make it to town, they may setup Friday at our new shop. Please call later this week or check the website for updates.
For Saturday and Sunday, Cannondale will setup the truck(s) at the San Felasco Trailhead, showing off their wares and letting folks try out the new stuff. Who knows? You might even be able to ride one for the entire Tour.
If you're not registered for the Tour, or more of a roadie, you can still come take a spin on one of their Pro Tour-Proven road bikes.
In addition to the off-road SF trails, Progress Park also has that nice enclosed loop that's been used for years in Dan's Bring It On criterium series...soon to be revived by local road race team, CycleLogic. Roadies are welcome to try out the new Cannondale road bikes on-site, or go out for a longer spin off-site. You'll be asked to show picture ID, sign a release waiver, and BAM! You're off on a new ride. Bring helmet, pedals, shoes, etc.
The Cannondale demo trucks will still be there all day Sunday. Come grab a Scalpel, Rush, Taurine or 29'er and hit the trails. For folks who didn't get to register to TdF50, the course will be wide open on Sunday...unfortunately, the sag stops will be gone by then.
I'm pretty sure that the GCC northbound ride is scheduled to go north on Sunday, leaving from the Hunter's Crossing Chevron. For anyone interested, we can do a group ride (or multiple ones) leaving from and returning to Progress Park, if anyone wants to take a demo out on the roads north of town.
Come see us at the event, or the new shop. We'll be closed this Saturday for the Tour, but open Sunday 11-4, Mon-Sat 9-6.

We have had one of our experienced volunteers cancel due to family issues,
and I am in need of a person to help with registration on Saturday, January
12 for the Tour de Felasco.
The person needs to arrive around 6:30 am at the Park pavilion (bike
trailhead just south of Alachua off 441), and will stay most of the day, at
least till around 3 pm.
It will be outside all day, so person must be hardy and adventurous and
dressed for the weather! Breakfast and lunch is provided.
Duties include rider check in during the morning (handing out registration
numbers and goody bags) and rider check out in the afternoon (handing out
t-shirts). The main requirement is a good attitude and a smile on your
face!
If you can help out, it would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know
asap.

Let=92s shake it up a little and do something a little different. =
Let=92s meet
at LeStore on SW 34th Street and SW Williston Road and do the 41 mile
version of the Windsor Ride on the GCC maps. I am attaching a PDF file =
with
the ride route, which will hopefully come through on the listserv. In =
case
it doesn=92t come through the general route is as follows: The ride will =
go
out Williston Rd to Waccahoota Rd and into Micanopy where we pick up CR =
234,
crossing the GHT at Angle Rd and heading on 234 to Windsor and on to SR =
26 a
few miles east of Orange Heights. There we turn east to Gainesville and =
back
to the beginning.=20
Our fearless leader, Jay Ritter is scheduled to return to Gainesville =
this
week and hopefully he and Rita will be able to join us. I thought I =
would
post one more ride since I am not sure if Jay will have time to do it =
when
he returns.=20
