GCCMail: EZ Riders Ride New Years Day George Edwards 28 Dec 2005 09:01 EST

Dear Friends:

To continue the tradition of spending New Years Day doing what you hope
to spend the year doing, the EZ Riders will lead a gently-paced tour of
the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail on Sunday 1 January 2006. We will leave
the Boulware Springs Park trailhead at 9:30 AM, and return around Noon,
thence to retire to an eating establishment which admits to being open
on that day. (We had problems along these lines last year on the Nature
Coast Trail - I will call around to find a suitable eatery.) I plan to
park in the upper (dirt) parking lot at the Pumphouse entrance - the
more southerly one off SE 15th Street.

Bring water, sunscreen, whatever. We will stop at a couple of
overlooks, but there will not be much in the wildflower department at
this time of year.

Please note that all are welcome on this ride. The EZ Riders maintains
no membership list, and there are no requirements for "membership" in
the group. If you want to ride with us, you are one of us. If our pace
is uncomfortably slow for some, they are welcome to ride on ahead and
join us at the end. This is easy on a trail. We leave no one behind,
and adjust our ride length to suit the wishes of the riders. We are
going out for fun, fresh air, and camaraderie, so no one should mistake
us for serious cyclists.

NOAA thinks there is a chance for scattered showers on Sunday, so keep
tuned. We won't ride if there is much precipitation around the area, so
this ride is in some danger of being canceled. Call me at 333-3184 with
questions.

See you Sunday.

Cheers,

George
