GCCMail: Good places to ride alone?
Stefani L. Osborne 04 May 2009 18:39 EDT
Hi all,
I recently got a bike after ten years of not owning one, and I'm trying
to figure out where to ride to improve my skills. Here's what I'm
looking for:
-- Somewhere with relatively low traffic
-- Bike lane or really wide shoulders
-- Decent neighborhood (as I'll be a single female riding alone)
-- Not too hilly
I live out near Santa Fe College, and it's all big hills and bad
traffic. My road, NW 98th St., is two lanes with no shoulders and a
45mph speed limit, so there's no way I'm riding on it until I get some
road experience.
So far I've just been riding around my subdivision because I don't have
road experience. I went on a GCC beginner ride a while back and had
fun, but there haven't been any more beginner trail rides since. I'd
like to be able to ride ten miles or more a couple of times a week, but
I can't until I figure out where to go.
Alternatively, I'd be happy to trail ride on a regular basis -- maybe
two mornings a week? -- with one or more persons who don't mind cycling
with someone a bit out of shape. :) I don't work, so weekday mornings
would be awesome.
Thanks for any help you can give me!
