GCCMail: Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail Maintenance George Edwards 09 Feb 2010 07:42 EST

Dear Friends:

The GHT is undergoing root pruning to kill the roots which cause those
uncomfortable bumps in the pavement. This consists of running a cutting
blade driven by a tractor through the dirt just off the pavement.
Eventually the root under the Trail will rot, and we will pound the bump
flat and seal the crack. You can see where this has been done in the
past. For a while (pending rain and some regrading) there will be some
loose dirt and debris just off the edge of the Trail. Use caution in
these areas.

Use caution also when there are work crews on the Trail.

Financial support for this work came from the Friends of Paynes Prairie,
Inc., and the tractor belongs to the Park. The work is being done by
volunteers with the support of Park Staff. If you see them at work,
thank them for their efforts on your behalf.

Cheers,

George
