GCCMail: Help! Who can do repairs on bags, saddles, etc?
rbrowning@xxxxxx 08 Jun 2007 09:56 EDT
Hello GCCers,
Following the "reduce, reuse, re-cycle" dictum I'm trying to get the most
out of my equipment.
Does anyone know of a place or person in town that can repair a pannier
in need of a new 2-way zipper? I tried the usual "tailors and
seamstresses" but they are all flumoxed by the need for a heavy duty
zipper that is not clothing - oriented. Brasingtons may have a staff
member who does this work on the side... but she is on vacation at the
moment. Any other ideas? It seems to me in a town like Gainesville with
all these penurious outdoor grainola-head types someone would be in the
biz of repairing backpacks, bags, heavyduty jackets, etc.
Also - a high end Selle- Italia saddle has a slight tear in the leather
cover, which will just get bigger and bigger. Any ideas on repairing
this? I don't like the "shower cap" saddle covers because they change the
coefficient of friction on the saddle surface, making it harder to slide
my butt around for all those body english moves I need to dodge squirrels,
cars and other riders. Duct tape is not the way either. Has anyone ever
tried this "liquid leather" stuff? Other ideas?
thanks,
rb
