GCCMail: Saturday LoBee Ride
Jon Martin 16 Jan 2009 11:42 EST
Saturday, January 16th
MEET: At the Le Store [http://gccfla.org/ridelocsw.html] on the NW
corner of SW 34th St and Williston Road.
* Park in the south end of the Publix parking lot. Alternate
parking is at the end of SW 47th Ave just east of 34th Street
across from the big Post Office.
* Please do not loiter in the parking area; we need everyone at
the ride start so that we can get organized and leave on time.
* Please watch where you are standing; do not stand in the parking
spaces in front of the store; congregate towards the east side
of the building, away from the entrance.
TIME: Meet at 10:00 am for an 10:15 am departure. (Note the later than
usual start time.) Depending on which forecast you believe, it should be
around 42 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny by then.
THE PLAN: Expect approximately 30 miles at 14-15 mph on the flats. The
route is up to the group, but I do have a couple in mind. The first is a
slight variaton of the long Wacahoota route
[http://gccfla.org/maps/Swacahoota.html]. The second route is south on
Williston Road, 346A/346 to Archer, and back to Gainesville on Archer
Rd.
As always: helmets are mandatory, mirrors are recommended.
About the LoBees
Lo Bees will obey all Florida cycling laws, a listing of which may be
found here: http://gccfla.org/laws.html
We do not ride more than two abreast on open roads. Cyclists are
expected to form one line on the far right side of the road whenever
cars approach from the rear.
Lo Bees will not leave any member of the group stranded. If someone
needs mechanical help a member or members of the group will wait with
them and provide any assistance they are able to.
At times distances may form between riders due to riding speeds that
particular day. The group will wait at all turning points along the
route to let participating riders regroup. This will assure that no one
makes a wrong turn and gets separated from the group. More importantly
this will enable us to be sure that all riders are still safely with the
group and are not stranded behind with mechanical difficulties or may
have even been tragically involved in an accident on the road.
I hope to see you there,
Jon Martin
