Dear GCC members,

Please join Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation on February 25th for a presentation by Dale Allen, president of Florida Greenways and Trails Foundation. He will be presenting "Creating a World-class Greenways and Trails System" in the CIED building on February 25th, from 11:00am to 12:15pm. Coffee will be served at a meet-and-greet before the meeting at 10:30am.

Dale will explain the economic benefits of trails, and discuss the historical and statutory background of the state's greenways and trails system. The proposed Original Florida Corridor passing through Alachua County and the exciting opportunities that Amendment 1 funding may bring for trail construction will also be addressed.

This presentation will kickstart an effort, in coordination with the Florida Greenways and Trails Foundation and the Office of Greenways and Trails, to build a long-distance corridor across north-central Florida through Alachua County within the next decade. While providing residents with many transportation, recreation and health benefits, a long-distance trail will also build greatly on our area's natural beauty, cultural centers, historic towns, and local sporting events to make Alachua County an even more desirable destination for tourism. We invite you to join us in our vision.
