Third annual Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off, revised version barb thomas 17 Aug 2014 16:27 EDT

On August 7th, officers of the non-profit organization known as CSCRB, Inc.
(Collaboration of Scientists for Critical Research in Biomedicine) presented a check for
$18,000 to Dr. Paul Okunieff of UF Health's Cancer Center. This donation, the proceeds from last year's Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off, will be used to further local research to find more effective treatments for aggressive subtypes of breast cancer, such as 'triple negative.' Go to: www.uff.ufl.edu/onlinegiving/CancerCenter.asp, scroll down to CSCRB, then to
Therapy Resistant Breast Cancer Research Fund 016589

To date, over $33,000 has been donated to the fund from the proceeds of the first two very successful Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off events.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The third annual Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off will take place on October 4th at UF Health's
Cancer & Genetics Research Complex, at the corner of Archer Road and Gale Lemerand Drive.
To put on a successful bicycling event like this, we need:
1. volunteers, able to help either before and/or on the day of the Pedal-Off, in these
      areas:  on-site registration, supply pick-up, 3 rest stop crews, "goody bag" stuffing,
                   food service (pre-ride breakfast and post-ride lunch; lunch provided by
                   Chuy's Tex-Mex restaurant),  distribution of "PPP" postcards and fliers
                    to local businesses, medical offices, schools, etc.
2.  sponsors: very important!   Donations of cash from businesses and individuals
               help defray the cost of putting on the Pedal-Off, making a larger donation
               possible
3.  recruiters: help us find volunteers among your friends, family members, and co-workers
4.  cyclists:   sign up to ride one of three possible distances at
                        www.pinkpumpkinpedaloff.org  or www.gccfla.org/pppo   (with links on
                        facebook)
5.  for you to forward this email to friends, family members, and co-workers.....and anyone
         who has lost a loved one to breast cancer
If you can help with items 1 or 2, please contact Barb Thomas: bnbbarb@aol.com  or 352 3774427.
All net proceeds from the Pink Pumpkin Pedal-off, a family-oriented community event           -not a race- will be donated to the above research fund.
Businesses, organizations, and individuals donating to the event may have a name or logo on the specially designed "PPP" t shirts.  If you would like more information about sponsorships, please contact me directly at bnbbarb@aol.com or 352 3774427.
Wear a "pink ribbon cycling jersey" to the Pedal-Off to further show your support of this community event benefiting local research.  To date, proceeds from the sale of the jersey have contributed over $6,000 to breast cancer research.  The jerseys have been sent to Australia, Israel, the UK, Canada, and much of the U.S.
All proceeds from cookbook sales are donated to the research fund as well.
Please contact me at bnbbarb@aol.com or 352 3774427 to order a cookbook or for more information, and see the Cancer Connections facebook page for more information about our monthly meetings at Hope Lodge:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cancer-Connections-Meetings-held-at-the-Hope-Lodge/274549155901702
