GCC friends,

The UF Office of Sustainability has partnered with the American Bicycle Education Association (ABEA) to bring Cycling Savvy  back to Gainesville.

Cycling Savvy is a comprehensive, classroom and road-based, 3-part course during which cyclists learn skills and techniques to make riding as a normal part of traffic feel, well…normal.  Also,  safer and less stressful.
UF is hosting the course and it’s being targeted to UF faculty, staff, and students, but even non-UF affiliated cyclists are invited to attend.

Details can be found here  (be sure to scroll way down to the Cycling Savvy section).  Limited spaces are available, so don’t delay.

The goal is not to make us all aggressive road warriors, but to teach us to recognize the most common safety hazards bicyclists (knowingly or unknowingly) face when riding with traffic, both where there are and are not bike lanes.  An important component is learning to communicate effectively with other road users to help them help us have a safer, more enjoyable bike commute. As a graduate of Gainesville’s first-ever Cycling Savvy course, I highly recommend the principles and practice this class promotes.  It works!
