Fellow cyclists,
As you may know, Team Florida is bringing back the Swamp Classic road race, time trial, and downtown criterium on the weekend of February 22-23. All races are USAC-sanctioned, and include both collegiate and open categories. As a Florida Ranking System (FRS) event, we are expecting a large turnout for an exciting weekend of racing!
The road race and time trial will be held on an 11.5 mile course in the rolling hills of Marion County. The famous downtown crit includes the hazardous cobblestones by the Hippodrome, and the hills on SE 2nd Pl and SE 2nd Ave.
Cash prizes are available for all categories except Cat 5, including a Pro 1/2 purse of $800. We will also be offering primes and other prizes throughout the weekend.

We are excited to host this event once again, but unfortunately a race of this magnitude requires a significant budget. Police officers are by far the largest expense; the 11 officers needed to facilitate the downtown crit alone incur a fee of thousands of dollars. Despite the cost involved, we believe this race is an important contributor to the growth of Team Florida, as we expand our numbers and continue to build our national prominence among collegiate teams. On a broader scale, large and successful events such as this race help cement Gainesville’s reputation as one of the foremost cycling cities in Florida.
