Hey members,

I know Roger set out a notice but I’m adding another.

I’m GCC member but see many of you through the windshield of a Florida Parks truck Friday mornings on the GHT.

The Trailkeepers could use a bit of help on the maintenance of one of our most precious assets, the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail. We’re a small group of dedicated volunteers working through GCC for Florida Parks.

The work normally involves driving the GHT from Boulware to Hawthorne at 8 am Friday mornings. We tow a large powered blower behind and that usually does most of the work. On occasion we need pruning tools to clear low hanging vegetation and sometimes shoveling some sand. All this normally takes about 3 hours of a Friday morning.

The crew is a varied lot and always fun and interesting conversations in the cab. We all work well together and Fairlie Bagley is our leader. Each quarter, after we all let her know of our committments, a schedule is posted. Even with that stuff happens and on our email network you only have to post a change request and one of us will always step up to take your turn or do a swap.

It is a commitment but, with about 8 years experience, it is an easy and fun way to give back to GCC, all Gainesville cyclists and our own Florida Parks.

Please give it consideration and if you have questions feel free to contact me or Fairlie.
