Hello fellow GCC members. Below is an announcement about the Tour de Felasco. Many thanks to those of you who participate each year as riders or volunteers. For riders, registration opens Oct 1. For volunteers, I will be in touch soon! Thank you.

The 12th annual Tour de Felasco, a 50-mile off-road bicycle tour (with a metric century option) is scheduled for Saturday, January 11, 2014. The Tour is sponsored by the Friends of San Felasco Citizen Support Organization (CSO) and is the primary fundraiser benefiting San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park. Experience areas of the park open to bikes only for the Tour, and this year's Tour may include an area not seen on previous rides.

Registration opens Tuesday, October 1 at 12:00 P.M. (noon) and is expected to fill quickly.

For registration, the Friends of San Felasco has again partnered with active.com. To access the registration page, either click the following link or paste it into your browser: http://beta.active.com/alachua-fl/cycling/mountain-biking-trail-heads/tour-de-felasco-2014. Registration is opening at noon to ensure active.com west coast-based tech support is available to quickly handle potential issues. The Friends of San Felasco will be available throughout the registration process. To report a problem, email info@sanfelasco.net.

Registration fee is $55 (plus an active.com process fee). Breakfast snacks, sag stops, goodie bags, a hot lunch, and post-ride pizza will be provided. A long-sleeve t-shirt is included. Note that this is a $5 increase from last year, which is the first increase in many years, and covers rising costs.

Please note that for security, active.com has set a 15-minute time-out period for registration. You can register a group of riders (up to 10 people). If you need to register more than 10 riders, you'll need to create more than one group, and each group is required to have a unique name. We recommend that you append a number to your group name, for example, rough riders 1 and rough riders 2. If you have questions, email info@sanfelasco.net.

If you attempt to register and find that registration is full, you can add your name to a waitlist. Email info@sanfelasco.net with the subject "Waitlist." If a registered rider later cancels, waitlisted riders will be contacted to fill the available slot.

For more information about the event, including a list of area accommodations, event rules, directions to the ride start/finish, and more, either click the following link or paste it into your browser: http://sanfelasco.net/tour.shtml

See you on January 11!
