Dear Editor (Gainesville Sun),

Watch the traffic cameras on NW 8th Ave during rush hour and you will see no bottlenecks.  There have been no wrecks.  No one has been fired for being late to work.  The Avenue should never have been four-laned in the first place.  It is in the middle of a nature preserve, folks.

The anti-bike and anti-pedestrian crowd has never provided any statistics or traffic data to support their emotional appeals against bike-ped infrastructure.  Meanwhile, Americans are driving less than ever before.  At the County Transportation Summit, realtors and builders proved that family-aged Americans want transit, bike-ped options, and less car traffic.

Cyclists are done playing nice in this community, where we have tolerated untruths and emotional appeals from the car-only crowd.  We are seventh in the nation for bicycle commuting.  It is time to stand up and be heard.
