All,

Volunteers are still needed on Saturday, May 5th to help pick up roadside litter as part of GCC’s participation in Keep Alachua County Beautiful Adopt-a-Road program.
Although GCC has 850+ registered members, just 3 people have volunteered to help out on Saturday.  We need to do better. Since GCC resumed participation in the Adopt-a-Road program, volunteer turnout has been poor, with no more than 4 volunteers per litter cleanup.  This is not sustainable, and creates a burden for those who do volunteer.  Each GCC cleanup covers 4 miles of roadside.  It takes over at least 3 hours to complete when just 2 people show up.  We should be able to provide at least 8 volunteers for an Adopt-a-Road event.

This is a great opportunity for GCC ride groups to step up and, even once per quarter, help staff a litter cleanup that simultaneously provides a service to our community. If we can’t get at least 8 volunteers for future cleanups, I am prepared to tell Keep Alachua County Beautiful that GCC can’t honor our commitment, and let them find another community group to take our place.

Can you (or your ride group) help out?
