The Gainesville Cycling Club (gccfla.org) announces “Advanced Cycling in the Street: A Riding Workshop” to empower cyclists to feel confident about taking the lane on city streets.
Why? Because it is safer, because the cyclist is more visible to motorists. Compared to riding to the far right, taking the lane reduces the likelihood of accidents involving cyclists.
Taking the lane is recognized as sound practice by the League of American Bicyclists, the Florida Bicycle Association, the American Bicycling Education Association, and many other organizations.
The workshop is free and open to all adults. This is a GCC event, so helmets are required.
We will meet at Lloyd Clarke Sports, 1504 NW 13th St, 352-372-7836, www.lloydclarkesports.com, on Sunday 8 April 2018 at 1 PM.
We will begin with a short discussion of riding in the street and group riding, followed by a group ride down NW 13th St and University Avenue. We will return to Lloyd Clarke for individual rides down 13th St. We will conclude at Lloyd Clarke with a debrief and wrap-up by 3 PM.
