Club, Team, Alums, and Friends,
Below find an invitation from Commissioner Wells (a cycling advocate) to discuss the major restructuring of the 8th Ave corridor. Spoiler: we're looking at lane reduction, some high speed segregated lanes for bikes, separate bus intake/outtake, and segregated sidewalks (not the silly mixed use stuff, hopefully). This could specifically effect commuters from NW Gainesville who ride into UF campus, and also Team Florida rides that head out 8th Ave to join GCC rides or to ride North on their own.
Unlike the County crowd, City meetings are typically friendly to public transit issues. Even a few people from our community being involved in this could effect the outcome of the planning. If you can't make it, Wells has provided contact info for your comments. Remember that any comments you give to government staff or officials in Florida is subject to Sunshine law--it will be recorded in the public record and journalists read it daily. If you would like me to edit or comment on your comments, I am happy to do so before you send them.
Rubber Side Down,
James Thompson
