Hi GCC members interested in the parade. I am not longer coordinating a GCC effort in the parade. I just don't think we have a quorum. I only got about 5 responses. My feeling is that to promote cycling Univ ave should look at least like an average commuting day in Amsterdam, have bright colorful entertaining costumes, and/or have a definitive and entertaining enlightening theme. I would not like to have a ragtag group that sort of indicated cyclists are an unorganized minority. It is important to remember that those in a parade are entertainers. This requires a bit of preparation. For those of you who still really want to ride in a parade, there are some cyclists that will be doing so from GCC, the Kickstand, Team Florida, and walk bike run. ( My guesstimate is around 25 people- hopefully more if everyone shows up that has promised to)  Below is the entry time and here are some contacts from GCC conexos@xxxxxxxxx, ( Randy)and gatorbear.grrr@xxxxxxxxx (Jere)

Hello,

At our team meeting last night i probed for interest in the parade and I believe we could provide at least 10 people to show up on bikes in UF kits to ride in the slot.  There is a possibility for more numbers but 10 would be a safe guess.  Let me know if this adds to your plans and if so I can officially get the ball rolling.

Congratulations once again on being accepted to participate in the 88th annual University of Florida Homecoming Parade! This yearâs parade has the potential to be the biggest and the best ever. The parade staff is very excited to work with your organization to make this a great experience for all parties involved. Here is some logistical day-of-the-parade information that will make everything go smoothly:

You have been placed in Wave 2 of the parade.  Wave 2 is scheduled to arrive at 8:30am. Part of your organization must be there at your scheduled arrival time. It is essential for the success of the parade that you arrive at the proper location at the proper time. Late arrivals may be disqualified from the parade.

All Special Units are to arrive and check in at the corner of Stadium Rd. and Gale Lemerand.

All Floats are to arrive at the entrance to the University of Florida OâConnell Center on University Avenue across from the Hillel Center.

Only actual units (special units or floats) are allowed to go past the check-in point. No other vehicles will be permitted beyond that point because they create a giant traffic jam and hinder the flow of the parade.

We ask that you are checked-in at your scheduled time, however, if you arrive later than 10:00 am you will be DISQUALIFIED from the parade. Also, all members of your organization must be with your unit by 10:00 am to make the parade flow as smoothly as possible.

REMINDERS
  • We WILL be checking for proof of insurance and a valid driver's license. You WILL be turned away at check in if you do not have both of these.
  • FLOATS must have a fire extinguisher on board, or you WILL be turned away.
  • ALL units must be in accordance with this year's theme "There is Nothing Like the Swamp". If any units are deemed to not be, they WILL be turned away.
  • NOBODY is allowed to THROW or HAND out materials, no matter how small. If you are seen doing so the police have been informed to pull you from the route.
Thank you for your cooperation and please feel free to contact Daniel Leary at the Florida Blue Key office at (352) 273-0829 with any questions or concerns.
